READING IS resistance roundtable
READING Is RESISTANCE... THE ROUNDTABLE | Stand Against Book Bans! The House of Umoja is on a mission to fight back against book bans and ignite a love of reading while cultivating functional literacy in our community! The Philadelphia Million Father March, for which the House of Umoja is the nationally designated coordinator, presents the READING Is RESISTANCE ROUNDTABLE. The roundtable is complimented by a special edition of UMOJA MAGAZINE. Six (6) fathers from the community, four of whom also penned articles in the magazine, come together to strategize against the banning of African American literature and history in school districts across the United States and to flip the trajectory of poor reading and math literacy skills and low test scores among African American students across the United States, especially in the city of Philadelphia. || MODERATOR: ANTHONY BANNISTER-FATTAH - Community Outreach Director, HOU PANELISTS: (r-l) Mark Hampton (penned "SLAVE LITERACY IS THE REAL TARGET OF OUR READING RESISTANCE: A West Philly Father Unveils Functional Literacy, Love, and Leadership as Pathways to Books over Bullets") -- Dr. Stephen Jones (penned "HOW TO REVIVE OUR IMPERIALED EDUCATION SYSTEM" -- Cleous G. Young (penned "FUNCTIONAL LITERACY MATTERS") -- Horace Clouden (Education Activist, WURD On-Air Personality, Former School District Professional) -- kdmorris (penned "A THING CALLED WATER") | |Printed copies of UMOJA MAGAZINES may be ordered at https://houseofumoja.net/umojamagazine or call us at (215) 473-5893.
